15 September 2011. – The blog network mokono has a new owner: The founders, Vasco Sommer-Nunes and Florian Wilken, who previously held the majority of the shares, and Burda Digital Ventures (BDV), the financial arm of Burda Digital, which owned a minority share since 2007, sold the company for 8.2 million Euros to Populis. Populis is a European online vertical media publisher based in Dublin.
Burda Digital Ventures is the financial investment arm of Burda Digital. The mokono investment was managed by Acton Capital Partners, as part of the BDV Fund. Investment Director Harald Ebrecht of Acton comments: “The mokono team has been successful in developing truly innovative business models for digital media. We very much enjoyed working with them and see a great future for mokono as part of the Populis network.”
